Espelette (Drying Pepper)
Scoville Heat Units: 500-4,000
These variable peppers can be 20 times milder than a jalapeño, and very rarely, up to a comparable heat level. They usually stick around a 500-1,500 SHU range.
A common spice from the Basque region of France and Spain. It has a subtle heat with rich, slightly smoky and citrusy flavor. These chilis are perfect for adding a bit of heat to a dish without overpowering it. The pepper is usually dried, ground, and made into piment d'espelette. Many of our customers are getting into the culinary and medicinal properties of Espelette powder. It's easy to grind at home using a Cuisinart or plain blender. Sprinkle the powder on literally anything, from lasagna to ice cream.
