Brandywine Sudduth's Grafted
Mrs. Sudduth of Tennessee gave seeds, said to be in her family for more than 80 years, to tomato gardener Ben Quisenberry of Ohio. First listed in Seed Savers Exchange in 1982. Prolific potato leaf plants produce 1-2 lb. large, dark pink fruit with wonderfully rich, intense delicious flavors. This is a strain believed to be of the original Brandywine. Excellent flavor! Plant has an indeterminate growth habit (needs a tall tomato cage). A good sub, if sold out, is Mortgage Lifter Grafted or Carmello.
Grafted plants produce more fruit with fewer problems. "Grafted" means: A disease-resistant hybrid tomato plant is the rootstock upon which the grafted heirloom is spliced, making for an extra-strong, super high-yielding tomato plant.
